Among the derailed coaches, at least two AC III Tier coaches had toppled over, while four others had jumped the tracks.

Buxar Superintendent of Police, Manish Kumar, reported that four passengers had tragically lost their lives in the accident. A Railway Police Force official confirmed that the injured had been promptly shifted to local hospitals, with those in critical condition rushed to AIIMS, Patna.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed his condolences for the lives lost and vowed to find the root cause of the derailment. He assured the public that evacuation and rescue operations had been successfully completed, and all coaches were thoroughly examined for safety.

Impact on Train Services

According to a statement released by the East Central Railway zone, several train services have been affected. Trains that have been cancelled include:

  2. Sasaram-Ara Special (03620)
  3. Bhabua Road Express Special (03617)
  4. Patna–DDU Memu Pass Spl (03203)
  5. Patna-Buxar Memu Pass Special (03375)

Additionally, two trains have been partially cancelled, namely:

  1. Patna-DDU Express (13209), which will operate up to Ara.
  2. DDU-Patna Express (13210), also running up to Ara.

Trains that have been diverted onto alternate routes include:

  1. Raxaul Antyodaya Express (15548)
  2. Dibrugarh Express (15945)
  3. Magadh Express (20802)
  4. Barauni Express (19483)
  5. Asansol SF Express (12362)
  6. Guwahati Poorvottar Sampark Kranti Express (22450)
  7. Brahmaputra Mail (15657), among others.

The railways have also issued emergency helpline numbers for passengers to provide assistance and information during this challenging time.

Local People Helped

Eyewitnesses and locals played a significant role in assisting passengers following the accident. Television visuals showed residents rushing to the rescue of passengers, helping them exit at least two toppled coaches. Among the visuals was a woman passenger who had understandably been left in shock, but locals swiftly came to her aid.

Jagdishpur SDPO Rajiv Chandra Singh reported that electric wires, poles, and rail tracks had been damaged as a result of the accident. Fortunately, due to the stability of some coaches, they did not overturn, potentially preventing further casualties.

Investigation and Relief Efforts

Chief Public Relations Officer of East Central Railway zone, Birendra Kumar, revealed that the derailment occurred less than half an hour after the train left the Buxar station, en route to Ara. Notably, the Raghunathpur station did not have a scheduled stoppage for this train. Relief measures were promptly initiated, with ambulances and medical personnel rushing to the accident site.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav has instructed the departments of disaster management and health to take immediate steps to ensure swift relief for as many affected individuals as possible. He has also been in contact with district magistrates in Buxar and Bhojpur, where Ara is headquartered, to expedite relief work.
