Wasim Akram Makes Shocking Statement: Rohit Sharma Better Than Kohli, Root, Williamson, Azam

In a recent statement, former Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram has lauded Indian captain Rohit Sharma, placing him above renowned batsmen like Virat Kohli, Joe Root, Kane Williamson, and Babar Azam. Akram drew parallels between Rohit and the legendary Inzamam-ul-Haq, highlighting Sharma’s exceptional batting prowess.

During a conversation on A Sports, Akram expressed his admiration for Rohit and his opening partner Shubman Gill, who amassed a formidable partnership of 91 runs in just 10 overs. Akram declared, “I don’t think there is anyone like Rohit Sharma in World cricket. We talk about emperor Kohli (Virat), Joe Root, Williamson (Kane), Babar Azam, but this guy is different.”

Akram emphasized Rohit’s ability to make batting appear effortless, regardless of the situation or the quality of the bowling attack. He noted, “He makes batting look so easy. No matter what the situation is, the bowling attack is, he plays his shots with ease. He changes the tempo of the game. Bowlers and oppositions are on the back foot from ball one.”

Reflecting on Rohit’s batting style, Akram drew a comparison with Inzamam-ul-Haq, noting the similarity in their ability to handle pacers with ease. “Like Inzamam, Rohit too has a lot of time against the pacers. His hand-eye coordination is so natural,” Akram remarked.

Supporting Akram’s perspective, cricketer Shoaib Malik echoed similar sentiments about Rohit’s approach towards different bowlers. Malik stated, “Rohit is that kind of a batter, who will go at all the five bowlers of the opposition team. Rest what Wasim bhai has spoken about the other batters, they will not go against all five; they sometimes wait for the part-timers as well, but not Rohit.”

Rohit Sharma recently showcased his batting prowess by scoring a brisk 61 off 54 balls against the Netherlands, contributing to India’s convincing 160-run victory. As India gears up to face New Zealand in the first semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday, all eyes will be on Rohit Sharma to continue his stellar performance on the cricketing stage.
