Vietnam might let Indians visit without a visa soon. Right now, people from Germany, France, Sweden, Italy, Spain, Denmark, and Finland can already go to Vietnam without a visa.
The Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism in Vietnam, Nguyn Van Jung, wants to boost tourism by allowing short-term visa-free entry for important markets like China and India. In the first ten months of 2023, Vietnam had 10 million foreign visitors, and 170,000 of them were from India. That’s a big increase!
Indian tourists like to go to places such as Phu Quoc Island, Nha Trang, Da Nang, Ha Long Bay, and Hoi An in Vietnam. Since August of this year, Vietnam started giving electronic visas to people from all countries. These visas allow multiple entries and are valid for 90 days.
If this happens, Vietnam will be the third country, after Sri Lanka and Thailand, to let Indian citizens enter without a visa. Thailand recently announced that from November 10, 2023, to May 31, 2024, people from Taiwan and India can visit without a visa for six months.
Vietnam Free Visa For Indians Date & Validity
Vietnam started giving out e-visas in mid-August for people from any country. These visas let you enter Vietnam many times and are valid for 90 days. For citizens of 13 countries who don’t need a visa anymore, they can stay in Vietnam for 45 days, which is three times longer than before.
Good news for Indian travelers! Thailand and Sri Lanka announced that Indians don’t need a visa to visit until May 31, 2024. The Thai Prime Minister plans to let Indians and Taiwanese enter Thailand without a visa from November 2023 to March 2024. This is because many people like to travel to Thailand.
Vietnam Free Visa Exemption
In simple terms, if someone from another country wants to visit Vietnam, they can stay there for a certain period without getting a visa or paying fees. This is called Vietnam visa exemption or visa-free policy. However, if you have a British National Overseas (BNO) passport, you can’t get a free visa for 15 days, so you need to apply and pay for a visa to enter Vietnam.
If you plan to visit Phu Quoc Island, you can stay there for up to 30 days without a visa, no matter which international airport in Vietnam you arrive at before going to Phu Quoc.
Also, if you have an APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC) and a valid passport, you can stay in Vietnam for up to 60 days without needing a visa.
Conditions for Exemption from Vietnam Visa
To visit Vietnam without a visa, you need to meet these two conditions:
- Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months from when you plan to arrive in Vietnam.
- Have at least two empty pages in your passport for stamps when you go through immigration and get your visa.
Is it possible to extend my visa exemption?
Before COVID-19, you could extend your time in Vietnam without a visa. Now, you can’t do that. If you want to stay longer, you have to go to a nearby country like Thailand, Cambodia, or Laos. Then, you can come back to Vietnam with a new exemption for a visa. People call this a “Visa Run,” and it lets you stay longer.
